Monticara

MONTICARA is made with the free-run juice. Fermented and aged in new french oak barrels for 10 months. Four months in the bottle before being released.
The origin of Moscatel de Málaga goes back to the arrival of the Phoenicians to our coast around the VII century B.C. In the mountains of the Axarquía region this grape reaches unparalleled quality.
Although it has been traditionally used to make sweet wines, MONTICARA is a very dry barrel fermented moscatel, which makes it so unique.

About Our Label:

Monticara is the name of a hill located in the Upper Axarquía in the Sierra Tejeda Natural Park, looking at La Maroma, the highest peak in the province of Málaga (2065 m).The illustration on the label, created specifically for this wine, shows us the landscape that can be seen on the approach to the vineyards: the imposing Boquete de Zafarraya, an image which is very characteristic of the Upper Axarquía. It’s a natural pass (of glacial origin) that links Málaga with the city ofGranada, which is seen in the background. At its feet lie Alcaucín and La Viñuela. Since this illustration is set inthe second half of the nineteenth century, it doesn’t depict the current Viñuela reservoir, also known as The Lake, by locals. The expression on the label “Viñas sobre lomos de elefante” (Vineyards on elephants’ backs) refers to a feature that defines the landscape of the Upper Axarquía: when seen as a whole, the rounded summits of the mountains which are separated by deep ravines are reminiscent of elephants’ backs.
